TuneCapsule is a personal music time capsule. This policy explains what information the TuneCapsule app itself handles and what happens inside integrated third-party services, so you can make an informed decision. It covers the TuneCapsule Android app distributed through Google Play.
1. No account required — your dates stay on your device
TuneCapsule does not require an account, registration or login, and does not operate a backend user-account service. There is no profile and nothing that identifies you.
The following information is stored only on this device (in your device's local app storage) and is never transmitted by TuneCapsule to us or to any TuneCapsule server:
- your birth date (an ordinary local calendar date, e.g. 9 April 1977)
- custom life moments you record (a label and a date, e.g. "Wedding Day")
- saved songs and playlists you create
- personalization choices (selected theme, special anniversary dates)
- optional notes attached to songs
- small caches (chart-era song descriptions and album artwork links) that let the app keep working offline
Retention: this locally stored data stays on your device until you remove it. Uninstalling the app — or clearing the app's data in your device settings — deletes all of the above at once.
The Billboard Hot 100 chart history the app presents is bundled inside the app itself; viewing it sends nothing anywhere.
2. What the app accesses on your device
- Local storage: for everything listed above.
- Vibration: light tactile feedback on some interactions.
- Network state: connectivity checks so the app can behave gracefully when you are offline.
- Notifications (optional): if you accept the system prompt, one local daily "Song of the Day" reminder. Content is generated on your device. You can decline the prompt or disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
The release build's permission list is kept minimal.
3. Advertising — Google AdMob (third-party)
TuneCapsule is free and displays banner advertising served by Google AdMob (implemented via the Google Mobile Ads SDK running inside the app).
Google operates its advertising services as an independent data controller. When ads load or display in TuneCapsule, Google may process information through its SDK and services, which — according to Google's own public disclosures — can include device identifiers such as the advertising ID, IP address, device characteristics, ad interaction data and coarse location, used for purposes such as ad serving, frequency capping, fraud prevention and (where permitted) advertising measurement or personalization.
TuneCapsule does not receive, see or control Google's data collection, and does not receive any personal data from AdMob. Whether ads are personalized can depend on your device/system settings and the consent you provide in Google's consent dialog where required.
TuneCapsule contains in-app privacy options where you can review and change your consent choices at any time, consistent with Google's User Messaging Platform.
4. Internet content the app may request
The chart dataset is bundled inside the app, so history browsing works offline. Optional content enrichment makes these requests on your behalf and only sends what is needed for the query:
- Wikipedia API — a song/artist title query when you open a song's story. Your IP address and the query naturally reach Wikimedia servers, governed by the Wikimedia privacy policy.
- Apple iTunes public search and artwork CDN — to retrieve album artwork images; image URLs are cached on your device.
TuneCapsule does not add identifiers to these requests and receives no data back about you.
5. Home-screen widget
The "Song of the Day" widget reads the locally stored chart entry on your device only. Widgets run entirely on your device.
6. Sharing
When you choose to share, the app hands the content you selected (such as a song title and date, or an image you are sharing) to the Android share sheet and to the app you pick. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you explicitly share.
7. Children
TuneCapsule is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Advertising is configured per Google's policies for that audience.
8. Not sold
Data is never sold by TuneCapsule.
9. Changes to this policy
Policy updates will be published at this public URL together with a new effective date.
